Relationship
is a laboratory
for the Self...

If you feel hopeless or unsupported, or you feel depressed or anxious... if your husband or wife or partner isn't willing to talk about problems... or if you'd simply like to tune up your relationships... there's professional, supportive, empathic, and good-humored help available, developed through decades of experience.

services
I offer teletherapy and online coaching to individuals, couples, and families, and welcome new clients into my private practice, Tim Quinn, MFT (formerly Chico Therapy.) I especially enjoy helping those who struggle with emotional intimacy to accept their complexity; rediscover and value their natural depth; and learn practical relationship skills.

experience
My approach is the result of decades of practice, both independently (since 1992) and as a supervising therapist in county outpatient clinics and psychiatric hospital settings in both Chico and Oroville, in Butte County, California. For 25 years, I provided psychotherapy and case management to clients experiencing major mental illnesses and substance abuse problems, as well as supervising teams of other professionals.

My approach is also informed by my lived experiences and personal beliefs. I'm happily married; a father to four grown men; a lifelong pet owner; hiker/camper/backpacker/climber; voracious reader; international traveler; former Peace Corps volunteer; stepdad; and grandfather. I'm also LGBTQ+ friendly.

confidentiality
Sessions are confidential. Client privacy is necessary for effective and ethical practice, and is included in the California Marriage and Family Therapist (CAMFT) code of ethics, Laws exist to protect client privacy, too.

In the following clearly defined situations, however, I am required by law to report session content. These circumstances are strictly defined and include:

payment
I charge an hourly rate of $175 for my counseling and coaching services. Payment is due day of session. At this time, I don't have openings available for new clients seeking a sliding payment scale.
I offer a variety of payment options including:

At your convenience you may pay an amount due; pre-pay in advance; or allow a third party (partner, relative, employer, insurer) to cover your therapy costs.

insurance
I do not accept insurance, but I am happy to provide a superbill containing applicable service and diagnostic codes to my psychotherapy clients who request one. This superbill acts as a claim, and can be submitted to your insurance company to request personal reimbursement. Not all insurance plans reimburse for therapy services or for services from out of network providers, so I recommend you speak with your insurance representative to discuss your specific plan's details.
I offer prospective clients a brief free consultation by phone. Please call with questions, or to discuss the services I provide and whether they may be appropriate for your situation.

To book a teletherapy or online coaching session, you may use my online scheduler; email; or call.
